H2O - Prospector 15'4" - Pro-Lite
H2O Canoe Company Prospector 15'4" Canoe Review
A shorter, nimbler take on one of the most respected tripping canoe designs ever built, the H2O Prospector 15'4" delivers the responsiveness and all-round capability of the Prospector family in a more compact, manoeuvrable package.
Scaled down from the classic Chestnut Prospector 16, the 15'4" keeps the same symmetrical hull, semi-arched bottom, and moderate rocker that define the series. The shorter length sharpens the canoe's responsiveness considerably, making it quick to turn and lively on moving water. That same quality asks a bit more of the paddler on flatwater, particularly when paddling solo, so this is a hull that rewards skill and grows with you as your technique develops. Intermediate and advanced paddlers will find it an exciting canoe to push; beginners are encouraged to get a test paddle in before committing.
Sharp entry lines and semi tumblehomed sides help the hull move through the water cleanly and shed waves away from the paddler, while the moderate rocker lifts the bow over larger swells rather than driving through them. The Prospector 15'4" is available across three layup tiers. Great White North suits everyday tripping and recreational paddling, Brute Force is built for paddlers who demand extra resilience, and Pro-Lite brings the hull down to as little as 36 lbs for those who prioritise weight on the portage trail. H2O's ICG gunwale system and wood gunwale upgrades in ash or cherry are also available.
- Length: 15 ft 4 in
- Hull: Symmetrical, semi-arched, keel-less with moderate rocker
- Great White North Layups: Innegra Tuff (55 lbs), Expedition Kevlar (51 lbs)
- Brute Force Layups: Innegra/Basalt (47 lbs), Kevlar (45 lbs), Kevlar/Carbon (43 lbs)
- Pro-Lite Layups: Innegra/Basalt (40 lbs), Carbon (38 lbs), Innegra/Carbon (36 lbs)
- Gunwale System: Integral Composite Gunwale (ICG) available
