For paddlers who need an occasional rooftop carry solution without the commitment of a permanent rack system, an inflatable roof rack that sets up in minutes and stores in a bag is a practical and surprisingly capable option.
The Malone HandiRack uses puncture-resistant three-ply nylon air tubes to create a cushioned, protective surface between your roof and your load, handling up to 180 lb without requiring any permanent hardware or roof rack installation. The low-profile inflated design keeps wind resistance and fuel consumption in check on the highway, and the whole system deflates and packs into the included tote bag when the trip is done. Five D-ring anchor points give you solid tie-down options for different load configurations, and the included 10' cam-style load straps and bow and stern safety lines cover a complete single-boat rooftop setup.
The double action pump inflates both tubes quickly, and deployment from the bag to road-ready takes only a few minutes. At just 6 lb packed, it's a sensible addition to a camping or travel kit for trips where a dedicated rack vehicle isn't available.
