The engineering story starts with the foam. NEMO's manufacturing process removes 60% of the material while actually increasing thickness by 290% when inflated, a result that sounds counterintuitive until you understand the horizontal coring approach. Each foam channel is hollowed out to shed weight and create progressive suspension that lets you sink in comfortably, while the solid foam bridges between channels prevent bottoming out and distribute support evenly. The result is a 3D sculpted structure that self-inflates on its own and recovers quickly after compression, with an R-value of 3.3 that holds up well for three-season camping across Canada's varied backcountry.

Achieving bluesign certification required updating every material on the pad, and NEMO did exactly that. The top, bottom, and stuff sack fabrics are now all 100% recycled and bluesign approved, and the entire production process meets bluesign's strict social and labour standards. The 20D soft-touch fabric is noticeably pliable and comfortable against skin, and the Laylow zero-profile micro-adjustable valve lets you fine-tune firmness quickly.
