The switch to a non-laminated steel is more than a material preference. It allows the spine to be ground to a true 90-degree edge straight from the factory, which means you can strike a ferro rod reliably without any additional prep work. For canoe trippers, backpackers, and bushcrafters who rely on fire starting as a core skill, that's a genuinely useful feature.
